Osmanlı Devletinde Hahambaşılık Müessesesi
10.01
The relations between the Ottoman Empire and Chief Rabbinate started from the foundation and improvement stage of the Ottoman Empire and went on until the foundation of the Republic of Turkey for which the last Ottoman Chief Rabbi, Hayim Nahum made great efforts in a friendly and concerted way. That these relations continue in the same way shows that the citizenship relations between Turkish and Jewish people are based on a strong and congruous ground. This book chronologically deals with the Jewish Society in the Ottoman Empire, the place, improvement and relations with the State of Chief Rabbinate in the Ottoman Empire. In the Ottoman Empire that lasted six hundred years, ?Chief Rabbinate? have always taken into consideration the importance of two subjects; first, Chief Rabbis have always been very careful in carrying out the relations with the Ottoman Empire?s authorities and second, they have always made great efforts to protect the benefits of Jewish Societies depending on the Chief Rabbinate. In this aspect, this book which fills an important gap in the Turkish-Jewish cultural history is a very useful source in respect of informing people who are interested in this subject.
